Looking for Volunteers

Hi everybody, hope you are all keeping fit and well. The small group of us in the village who do the planting of flowers around the village would like to tidy up the area opposite the church. We are looking to pull up the existing flagstones, chop a bit of the hedging, relay some new flagstones and replace the seat with a new bench. To do this we will be looking for some volunteers to do a bit of hard work. I appreciate we are still in a lockdown situation but hopefully with this being outside and maybe start next month we will be OK. If you are not comfortable with this that is fine. Please let me know if you are willing to help. Thanks Paul Ward

Electrical appliance repairs for charity

 Electrical appliance repairs for charity?

Does anyone know of a local charity repair shop willing and able to receive broken electrical appliances, repair the items and then donate the repaired items to good causes?

I have a number of substantial gym and gardening electrical items that are no longer working due to want of repair; all the items were operating in good working order but now require either repair or disposal.

- I have replaced most of the items with new, and I am about to dispose of these old, broken items.

However, as the items are actually in reasonable condition apart from the need of some repair, it seems such a waste to just dump them at the council waste tip.

- I would much rather donate the items to charity if there is a charity repair shop willing to receive the items, repair them and then donate the items so they can be reused (and help the planet by preventing waste!).

The items are:-

1.) Recumbent exercise bicycle, professional gym standard, ‘Bodybuilder Australia’ (replacement value approximately £1,100)

- Rubber drive belt shredded, requires replacement rubber drive belt.

2.) Garden strimmer, electric, MacAllister MGT600 (only £22 in B&Q clearance sale), complete with power cord and plug.

- Motor appears to have ‘burnt out’, motor requires repair or replacing.

3.) Garden lawn mower, electric Qualcast MowerSafe 30, complete with power cord, plug removed (replacement value approximately £55).

- Motor appears to have ‘burnt out’, motor requires repair or replacement.

4.) Chain saw, electric, B&Q Oregon PP350, complete with chain, power cord and plug (replacement value approximately £100).

 - One anchor screw missing from chain arm, screw needs replacing.

5.) Hedge trimmer, cordless, B&Q Performance PWR18VHTA (replacement value approximately £95), complete with original cardboard packing box, 8 V DC 1700 mA Ni-Cd rechargeable battery, charging stand, charging transformer with power cord and plug.

- Hedge trimmer in good working order; fault with either the charging transformer and/or charging stand (power light and charging light do not light up) – cannot recharge battery.

Photographs of the items can be provided upon request.

If anyone knows of a charity repair shop that may be willing to take these items, please contact:

Volunteers Wanted For Taking Part In Psychological Study

Many of you who know us will know that our daughter Becky is currently studying psychology at the University of Kent at Canterbury and she is now doing a research project for her final year (I know time flies!).  She has to recruit more than 40 participants for her study and wondered if any villagers would be able to help her out.

She writes:

"Please would you consider taking part in a psychological study and get paid £35! All you have to do is read a book over 3 weeks (approx 270 pages) that will be sent to you free of charge, and download an app on your smartphone that will ask you a couple of daily questions about your diet and beliefs. You will also have to complete a few short questionnaires which won't take longer than 15 mins each.
Participants must be aged 18 or over and eat meat.
Here's the link to the prescreening survey which won't take longer than 10 mins:

If you do decide to help me, thanks for your time"

If you have signed up, please could you email me to let me know and I can tell her.

Thanks

Looking For Social Bridge Players

Hi. I have recently moved into Bielby and would like to meet people who live in the village. Being slightly long in the tooth I find it difficult to make new friends. However I enjoy playing bridge and wondered if anyone plays social rubber bridge in Bielby. I enjoy playing but don't take it too seriously. If anyone would like a partner or if there are three bridge players who need a fourth person then please contact me by e-mail jennifercurtis222@btinternet.com. Thank you.

Village Taskforce Walkabout – Volunteer Required

Village Taskforce Walkabout – Volunteer Required
Friday 7 July 2017 at 9.45 AM with Jim McGivern, Parish and Area Liaison Team Leader from ERYC
‘Walkabouts’ give parish council representatives a formal opportunity to identify routine work to be carried out by the village taskforce team within the built-up part of villages i.e. between village nameplates, and are held biennially.  Items of work identified on the walkabout, which fall within the scope of work the teams can do, will be carried out according to priority during their regular visits and will be completed by the end of the grass cutting season.  The basic tasks which can be undertaken by the village taskforce teams include: minor pothole repairs, street asset painting, sign repair and washing, and the cutting back of overgrown vegetation.

As in previous years any issues raised by the parish council on the walkabout which are outside the scope of what the taskforce team can deal with will be noted and referred to the relevant section for their consideration.   It has to be appreciated though that, due to the present financial constraints, these can only be addressed on a priority basis and no guarantee can be given that work will be undertaken.

I did this in 2015 and so I am wondering if anyone is interested in accompanying Jim this year? Please could you let me know (asap) so I can confirm with Jim and pass on contact details. Thanks, Gabrielle – 318491 or gabbyrose14@gmail.com

Wanted Home for Horse

We are currently looking for a new home for our horse; does anyone in the village have or know of grazing and a stable that we could rent out?

Brandy is currently recovering from an injury, so we would like to move him closer to home so we can keep an eye on him. Brandy is a 14.2, 14yr old bay gelding.

Although he is friendly towards humans, he can be quite dominant towards other horses, therefore would need to be separated from other horses and ponies.

If you can help us out please contact Helen and Shauna on 01759318762 or email adamuhelen@aol.com

Thank you everyone! Helen Tucker
