Apprenticeship vacancy

Yorkshire and Humber drainage board are seeking interest from anyone in the local area interested in an apprenticeship in Civil Engineering position based at our offices in Newport, Brough. This is the fourth apprenticeship our organisation has offered in as many years, a programme which has been very successful with our first apprentice now qualifying and moving into a full-time role within our organisation.  From the Ward Councillors

Dear Clerk,

We thought you and your councillors would find it useful to hear the latest Cost of Living Support East Riding Council has on offer for our residents. At the meeting of Cabinet last week, the following schemes were approved:

  • Free Schools Meals extended during this year's school Holidays - this is an investment of £1.6 million and will support over 8,000 children across the county and ensure they have access to good food.
  • £150 for food and £200 for fuel (in winter) for households who are identified as in need, but not eligible for Central Government support.
  • Care Leavers support - £150 for food for those young adults leaving council care and entering the world as independent adults.
  • £150 Food and £200 Fuel (in winter) support for working households who are not on benefit but if struggling can apply for support for the Council.
  • Support for registered carers who look after family members etc - this too will be £150 for food and £200 for fuel (in winter). These people help reduce the pressure on the taxpayer by keeping people in their homes and out of the social care system, so they must be supported as their work is vital to support our communities.
  • Further Grant funding will be made availed to support food banks and local charities.
  • Funding will be provided to support people in rural communities living on oil of needed.
  • Funding will be available to replace people's broken white goods if they cannot afford to replace them themselves.
  • We are also looking to expand our debt advice service to help ensure households can manage their money and be financially independent for the future.
As you can see, we continue to work to support our residents, and in particular we continue to support those in work and help make people financially independent as this is the sustainable way of helping people. We will not give our handouts; we give hand-ups.

Please promote these schemes amongst your residents. If anyone needs support, they can either contact ERYC directly, or contact us and we will help them get the right support.

Best wishes,

Councillor Derek Carey, Councillor Leo Hammond and Councillor Paul West
