Solar Farm Application

 I think it may be worth just posting a bit about the applications for Solar Farms in our area. I dont know if anyone else has received a letter from David Davis MP (see here for my copy) about recent applications and consultations but I thought I'd send this image of the application that Mylen Leah Solar Farm have submitted which I have superimposed over the application for the Humberhead Solar Farm.

Mylen Leah solar farm in bright green - In consultation now

Humberhead Farm in dull green/grey - In early stage negotiations with ERYC and local landowners etc.

Links to both;

https://projects.statkraft.co.uk/mylen-leah-solar-farm/

https://www.humberheadsolar.co.uk/

For context the Humberhead application is in early stage application on their website they say

"We are currently in the early stages of engaging with the host authority (East Riding of Yorkshire Council), statutory bodies, local representatives, landowners, and near neighbours on the project.

We are undertaking a range of preliminary site surveys and initial assessments to identify any constraints and issues and to inform project design development, in addition to any mitigation measures that we will include.

In tandem with this work, we will engage with the council, local representatives, landowners, and near neighbours on the project. Later this year, we will hold a full public consultation on the plans."

Mylen Leah Solar Farm is in open consultation which I think you should all have a copy of an invitation  to engage in this, They say;

"We have now launched statutory consultation on our plans for Mylen Leah Solar Farm, a new solar project located between Seaton Ross, Melbourne, Laytham, Ellerton, East Cottingwith and Foggathorpe in the East Riding of Yorkshire.

Our statutory consultation will run from Thursday 16 April to Thursday 28 May 2026. During this period, we will be holding in-person and online consultation events where you will be able to view our proposals, ask questions and provide your feedback."

I will put the topic for discussion on the Agenda for the Parish meeting to which everyone is invited on May 11th at Coffee and Coe 7.30pm.

Village Planter Competition 2026

The Village Planter Competition is back for 2026 after a successful first year in 2025.

Plant up a container with flowers & foliage so it can get seen from the street/lane. Get a space cleared on your boundary/ verge, ( so long as it is safe to do so) and create a floral display in a tub or planter and show us your horticultural skills for everyone to enjoy.

The planters will be judged by Chris and Jan as they have no street frontage.

Judging will take place before the Produce Show and the winners will be announced on the show day ( Saturday 8th August).

If you want to take part just write your name and address and Village Planter competition on a piece of paper and pop it through Alex's letterbox at North and South Cottage so we know which planters to judge.

Thanks everyone and happy growing.

Easter at Bielby Church

Easter at Bielby Church

Since we currently have no appointed priest, things are different this year, so please note:

Good Friday (April 3rd) and Easter Day (April 5th) there will be no services here at St Giles's church.

Even so, as is our custom, the church will be open both days 10.00 am to 6.00 pm.

Everyone is welcome to go in, however briefly, for a quiet, private moment of prayer, reflection or stillness in the village's ancient, sacred place.

 The nearest Easter Day Holy Communion in our group will be at Harswell at 10.45 am, where, again, everyone is welcome.

BIELBY SHOW DATE

The Show committee met earlier this week and agreed to hold the next Village show on Saturday August 8th 2026, Dale Greenaway has agreed to host again for which we offer many thanks.

There is also rumour of a bucket of Spuds competition, which for those of you who were around 10 or 11 years ago this is a re-launch of a super spud fundraiser to keep the show going in future years. So when further information comes out, please put your hands in your pockets and buy an entry to grow as many spuds in your bucket as your green fingers can cultivate. We will be providing a bucket, a seed potato and then its up to you how you grow your spud to achieve maximum yield. On the day of the show, bring your bucket down to be weighed in. Heaviest 3 weights will win a prize.
