Debbie has received a letter of thanks for the village from Chris French, the vice chair of the Pocklington Rugby In The Community charity, for the donation made from the music festival. Well done everyone.

Thanks From Yorkshire Air Ambulance

Dear Mr Readman                              

Yorkshire Air Ambulance would like to say a heartfelt thank you for another very kind donation of £210.00 raised at the recent village quiz night. Thank you so much to all those involved and for your continued support.         

Your donation really is a life saver. It helps us provide a rapid response emergency service to 5 million people. On average, our crews respond to around 1,700 incidents each year-that’s nearly five missions a day across Yorkshire. We help people like Maura Jones, and her two daughters who were in a road traffic collision near Settle: 

“Having the air ambulance where we live, as remotely as we do out here, is an amazing facility and an absolute godsend. It got me to hospital in approximately 20 minutes, when the journey by road would have been double. I know we’ve been lucky when I think what the other outcome could have been, we’re all still here, and we’re all together and still strong as a family. I feel very grateful”. 

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance is an independent Charity and receives no direct government funding. As such, we rely on the generosity of people like you to help save lives 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Thanks to generous donations like yours we now have plans to improve our service by expanding our fleet to include a 3rd helicopter to act as a cover for when one of our two helicopters are down for maintenance. We are now also employing our own Technical Crew Members. All this means we will have greater operational availability and is another reason why your donation is so important to us, our patients, and the people of Yorkshire.

Baking Volunteer List

Debbie was just wondering if anyone is interested in being included on my list of volunteers for baking cake/tray bake. 

Debbie is a trustee of a charity Pocklington Rugby in the Community. Part of their work involves supporting elderly people who are lonely, isolated, vulnerable and for this they run a social on the last Friday of every month at the rugby club. 

What started out as a handful of people getting together for a game of dominos and a cup of tea/coffee has now grown. They have around 50 regulars who have had opportunities to make new friends and really feel they belong to something as well as having new experiences! 

They are always looking for volunteers who might like to help out with providing cakes etc it would not be every month as they try to share the load round. 

If anyone is interested in being involved and want to know more just drop Debbie a message on 07788100201. 

Debbie says she cannot tell you how great it is to meet people in Pocklington who are now full of enthusiasm and tell her how the Friday social is the highlight of their month or that they've discovered new skills as a result of the activity they've been introduced to at the social, be it crocheting, pot making, quizzing, bingo, crafts!!

Raising Money For Hearing Dogs

 Some of you may be aware that James and Elizabeth Jones from the village have been undertaking several daredevil activities in preparation for a 100m abseil down The Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth in aid of Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. The preparations included: GoApe (where Elizabeth spent most of her time suspended upside down), 250m zipwire over a lake with an undignified landing (Elizabeth again) 150ft abseil into the abyss at Magna, (Elizabeth’s glove got caught in the equipment, are you seeing a theme here…) and several short abseils off a bridge in Derbyshire, (no mishaps this time!). On 3rd July, we completed the final challenge and abseiled down the Spinnaker Tower and we both lived to tell the tale. Bielby Charity Donations

 STATUS UPDATE, 30 DECEMBER: 2021 Bielby Charity Donations (in lieu of carol singing).

Since launching the 2021 Annual Bielby Charity Donations on the 6th December, we have raised £255 so far as of 30^th December 2021 (£150 of online bank transfers, £50 cheque and £55 in cash donations).

- The fund will remain open for any further donations until Epiphany, 6th January 2022, for anyone who wishes to celebrate the new year with a charitable donation to a worthy cause.

All money raised this year will be donated to Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Last year, 2020, Bielby Parish raised £345; £318.81 in 2019 and £223.29 in 2018.

Donations can be made by either:

(a.) Online bank transfer to Bielby Parish Meeting Account, Account number: 83103228, Sort code: 60-16-35, stating: “2021 Carol Singing” as the “Reference” or “Message to Payee”; or,

(b.) Cash or cheque made payable to Bielby Parish Meeting Account in a sealed envelope, clearly mark the envelope “2021 Carol Singing” and deliver to either Paul Ward at The Byre, Graham Tew at Corner Farm, or Ian Ross at Firgrove House.

- Any cash donations can be made anonymously if preferred.

- Groups of neighbours, friends or families may prefer to arrange to contribute to a single ‘pot’ between them and donate the combined amount from one representative of the group.

Hi everybody, I hope you are all keeping safe and well.

Due to the ongoing situation with the Covid-19 pandemic, it was agreed at the last parish meeting to again cancel the door-to-door carol singing around the village (Bielby Parish Meeting Minutes, Item 12).

- This is unfortunate as the carol singing is a great event that raises money for local charities.

We would still like to raise money for charity this year and show some typical Bielby generosity by asking everyone to make donations in lieu of the usual door-to-door carol singing collection.

All money raised this year will be donated to Yorkshire Air Ambulance as agreed at the last parish meeting (Bielby Parish Meeting Minutes, Item 12).

 

Donations can be made by either:

Following the Twelfth Night of Christmastide, the Bielby “carol singing” fund raising was closed and the money raised will soon be donated to Martin House Children’s Hospice.

A total of £345.00 was raised from 19 donations.

- Accounts are available for inspection upon request; there were 6 donations by bank transfer into the Bielby Parish bank account, 2 donations by cheque and 11 cash donations (including anonymous donations).

The £345 raised is a great token of generosity from the people of Bielby during these difficult times, and is a record amount for the Bielby carol singing fund raising, more than the previous record of £318.81 raised in December 2019.

Martin House and Whitby Lodge provide care for children and young people from 0 to 19 years old who have life-limiting conditions such as cancer, Spinal Muscular Atrophy, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, or Batten's Disease, offering the best possible end-of-life care and support to the family in bereavement. Martin House relies on donations and fundraising to provide care and support to 428 children and young people and 155 bereaved families across West, North and East Yorkshire.

As there cannot be a normal carol singing fund raiser this year because of the coronavirus restrictions, Bielby Parish is accepting donations instead of the usual carol singing ‘door-to-door’ collection.

- Because of the cancellation of so many fund raising events during 2020, many charities are suffering this year.

 

All money from the Bielby Carol Singing Donations this year will be donated to Martin House children’s hospice, Wetherby.

We collected £318.81 carol singing round the village on Wednesday evening. I would like to say a huge thanks to all the people who gave very generously and the singers who were in fine voice on such a horrible wet and cold evening.

The money raised will go to York Against Cancer which I am sure you will agree is a very worthwhile cause. Thanks again and have a great Christmas and New Year.

Coffee Morning at Cherry Court Thanks

Pete and Val would like to say a Very Big Thank You to their family, friends and villages who helped and supported them at their Final Coffee Morning at Cherry Court, on Saturday 23rd November 2019. They were delighted to have raised a Grand Total of £955.00 (their most ever) to be shared between St Giles Church, Bielby; York Hospital Butterfly Appeal and Woldgate School Peer Mentor Programme.

British Legion Poppy Appeal Thanks

Pete and Val would like to thank everyone who bought a poppy and supported the British Legion poppy appeal for Bielby. We raised £49.60. A very good effort as we only had the duck race and remembrance day to collect. Thank you.

Christmas Coffee Morning Saturday 23rd November 2019

Pete & Val of Cherry Court are hosting their last Christmas Coffee Morning on Saturday 23rd November from 10 til 12noon.

Lots of Christmas Crafts and Stalls.

Donations of Cakes and Raffle Prizes really appreciated.

The proceeds will be shared between St Giles' Church Bielby, Woldgate School Peer Mentor Programme and York Hospital the Butterfly Appeal.

Carol Singing Donation - an update from Paul.

This photo is of Gabrielle and I visiting Woldgate school to present a cheque for £223.39, from the carol singing, in aid of the peer mentoring group they run to help other pupils with coping strategies and mental health issues. We were very impressed with the enthusiasm and skills the young mentors had. The work they do is helping many children at the school to deal with often minor issues that could if not dealt with early become bigger problems.

I personally came away with a different but very positive impression of our young people and feel our money will be well spent.

Peer mentoring is a well-established part of the support which we offer pupils at Woldgate School. Buddies are chosen and trained by Mrs Vickers when in Year 9 and then begin their roles when Year 6 join us for Creative Arts’ days and the main transition events in the Summer. They are an integral part of helping the new Year 7 pupils find their way around in September and then go on providing support for all pupils as the year progresses.
It is a successful project, but one which we hope to expand in coming months and so we were so grateful to receive a cheque for £223.29 from Bielby Parish Group, Chairman Paul Ward and Secretary Gabrielle Rose and our very own Mrs Kendra, who raised money for us by carol singing at Christmas.
The money will be used to develop the training and to provide more opportunities to raise pupils’ awareness of the support in a higher profile way, such as a stalls in A Block corridor.
Alicia Sanerivi, on behalf of the mentors said: “It is a very rewarding thing to do. Pupils talk to us about friendship issues and things which they are struggling with and we are friendly face. We help them to speak to a member of staff when something is more serious.” “We enjoy getting to know the new pupils and helping them to settle in
quickly.”

Village Quiz Thanks

Neil would like to thank everyone for coming and supporting the village quiz and is happy to say that £160 will be shared between church funds and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
