Village Walk 29th December 2019

A reminder to all that we will be having the village walk on Sunday 29^th Dec. We are meeting at Neil Readmans house at 10am for a drive to North Newbald then a walk from there with a pub lunch after.

Carol Singing Thanks

We collected £318.81 carol singing round the village on Wednesday evening. I would like to say a huge thanks to all the people who gave very generously and the singers who were in fine voice on such a horrible wet and cold evening.

The money raised will go to York Against Cancer which I am sure you will agree is a very worthwhile cause. Thanks again and have a great Christmas and New Year.

Carol Singing Wednesday 18th December 2019

A reminder we will be carol singing round the village on Wednesday 18^th Dec. We are starting at Stoneleigh Care Home at 18-30. Please support us by coming out to sing or be generous when we come round.

Everingham News Update For December

A reminder about the Everingham Coffee morning, next Thursday  19th,10-12 noon.The will be up & you can sit round the fire to have your drink & cake and more mince pies?

Everingham Village Hall will be open on Inn Night, FRIDAY 20th DECEMBER. The evening will start at 6-30pm,so that families can come along for a while & enjoy a seasonal atmosphere! The Christmas  will be in the corner (how big will it be this year?), the fire will be lit, warm sausage rolls, sausages & crisps etc will be offered,as well as table tennis & a few activities for youngsters whilst their parents chat away!

The next Inn night at the Village Hall will be on Saturday 29th February 2020.  Yes,the 29th,so it must be a Leap Year! It will take the form of a quiz with delicious local, home cooked food included. Please put the date in your diary. More details in February’s newsletter.

And finally the planned Children's Christmas Party has had to be cancelled due to a lack of replies back and unforseen circumstances. It is hoped that a summer event for the children will take place instead.

Everinghma Village News Update.

Training In First Aid/Defibrillator

At the last village meeting we discussed some training in first aid/defibrillator which is free. We can hold this in the church but we need to get enough people interested for the trainers to give up their time. The training is about 1 hour. Please let me know ASAP if you would be interested in this. We need at least 12 people.

I am involved with this new charity and rather hastily we are able to provide a free Christmas lunch next Wednesday at the rugby club. It is really for people who are feeling lonely, isolated and struggling at this time of year, male or female.

Coffee Morning at Cherry Court Thanks

Pete and Val would like to say a Very Big Thank You to their family, friends and villages who helped and supported them at their Final Coffee Morning at Cherry Court, on Saturday 23rd November 2019. They were delighted to have raised a Grand Total of £955.00 (their most ever) to be shared between St Giles Church, Bielby; York Hospital Butterfly Appeal and Woldgate School Peer Mentor Programme.

British Legion Poppy Appeal Thanks

Pete and Val would like to thank everyone who bought a poppy and supported the British Legion poppy appeal for Bielby. We raised £49.60. A very good effort as we only had the duck race and remembrance day to collect. Thank you.

Volunteers Wanted For Taking Part In Psychological Study

Many of you who know us will know that our daughter Becky is currently studying psychology at the University of Kent at Canterbury and she is now doing a research project for her final year (I know time flies!).  She has to recruit more than 40 participants for her study and wondered if any villagers would be able to help her out. 

She writes:

"Please would you consider taking part in a psychological study and get paid £35! All you have to do is read a book over 3 weeks (approx 270 pages) that will be sent to you free of charge, and download an app on your smartphone that will ask you a couple of daily questions about your diet and beliefs. You will also have to complete a few short questionnaires which won't take longer than 15 mins each.

Participants must be aged 18 or over and eat meat.

Fracking

We have been sent the following email re fracking. 

I refer to our previous correspondence about fracking and can now update you on the position.

Following representations that I and others have made, the government has now called a halt to shale gas extraction in England.

This comes after a report by the Oil and Gas Authority said it was not possible to predict the probability or size of tremors caused by the practice.

As you probably know, fracking has been suspended since a tremor in Lancashire in August but now Business Secretary Andrea Leadsom has announced the government was "no longer convinced" shale gas could be extracted safely.

Mrs Leadsom said: "After reviewing the OGA's report into recent seismic activity at Preston New Road, it is clear that we cannot rule out future unacceptable impacts”.

I have already passed on to ministers your views as well as expressing my own ongoing concerns and I am pleased at this decision.

Council Tax scam warning

Below is a message via ERNLLCA from the Pocklington Town Council clerk with a warning about a Council Tax scam.

Good Afternoon

Please be aware that Pocklington Town Council have received several calls today from residents saying that  a male called “Dave” or “George” is ringing on behalf of the council and is either telling them that they are due a Council tax refund or have underpaid and need to pay the difference (the figures that have been quoted to residents are approx. £80- £100) 

The male is then asking for bank details to make the refund or to take a payment for what is owed.   This is a SCAM,  Pocklington Town Council would never ring you and ask for your bank details or discuss your  council tax payments  with you.  Please do not give any bank /personal details to this male who can become abusive on the phone if he is challenged. 

If you have any concerns then please call into the Council offices  or report to Action Fraud or 0300 123 2040
