Pumpkin Carving At Stoneleigh

Stoneleigh will be holding their annual pumpkin carving event on Tuesday 29th October at 14.30pm.

So please let Dale know if your children/grandchildren would like to attend along with yourselves.

Wednesdays At Stoneleigh

Are there any senior members of the village who would like to come to Stoneleigh one day a week for their meals and a day of activities. Please pass the message on to anyone who may not see this. Thanks. 

Dale is hoping to host a day a week where you can come and have a hot meal, buffet style tea, hot drinks and company. 

There will also be the opportunity to use the facilities - shower/bath, laundry.

Stoneleigh is always warm and if our elderly community can save on their bills we’d be happy to help.

It will probably be a Wednesday.

Halloween Pumpkin Carving At Stoneleigh

Dale is going to do another Halloween pumpkin carving event like he did a couple of years ago, which was a brilliant afternoon.

Dale is inviting any children of Bielby to come to Stoneleigh to carve a pumpkin. He has pencilled in Friday 28th October. 

Dale thought the children might come in Halloween costumes, and Dale will hollow out the pumpkins so they’re ready to carve when the children arrive. They'll put on a Halloween tea. There will be prizes for the Halloween carving.

It was a brilliant afternoon last time and all the children, parents, grandparents and residents had a lovely time all together. Thanks Dale and the Stoneleigh team for asking us back again, we can't wait to pop over for some Halloween fun.

Pictures, Cards & Letters For Stoneleigh

I asked Dale if it was ok for the children in the village to write/make letters, cards and pictures for the residents at Stoneleigh. Dale said that would be great. In the cards and letters we can just put Hello Everyone...

If we just post them through the letterbox to reduce contact that would be great.

Halloween Pumpkin Carving At Stoneleigh Tuesday 29th October 2-4pm

Stoneleigh Event & Produce Show Saturday 20th July 2019

The Produce Show is being held in the garden's at Stoneleigh this year, by kind permission of Dale, on Saturday 20th July. (Bring entries along 9.30 til 11am)

Dale is organising some stalls; a cake stall, plant stall, tombola plus Pimms and refreshments, garden games and a lucky dip for the children, in aid of St Leonard's Hospice. Come along and support this from 2pm. (If anyone can donate cakes, plants or anything for the tombola, Dale would be very grateful. St Leonard's Hospice help support the residents and families at Stoneleigh and Dale and staff wanted to thank them for this support.)

At 2.30pm you can see the 30th Produce Show entries and see who has entered prize winning entries! The Produce Show will have cream teas so come along and enjoy a relaxing afternoon.

Bielby Produce Show 20th July 2019

Red Velvet Cake Recipe

Ingredients

For the red velvet cake

150g/5½oz unsalted butter, softened

150g/5½oz golden caster sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

3 free-range eggs , lightly beaten

4 tbsp Greek-style yoghurt

1-2 drops red food colouring gel

150g/5½oz self-raising flour

50g/1¾oz cocoa powder

1 tbsp semi-skimmed milk

For the icing

100g/3½oz butter

200g/7oz cream cheese

500g/1lb 2oz icing sugar

1 tsp lemon juice

Method

1. Pre heat the oven to 170C/150C Fan/gas 3. Grease and line a deep, round 15cm/6in tin.

2. Beat the butter, sugar and vanilla together in a bowl until pale and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating after each addition (if the mixture looks curdled add a spoonful of the flour.)

3. Mix the yogurt with the food colouring - it should look very, very red since the mixture will fade once cooked. Beat the yogurt into the cake mixture.

4. Fold in the remaining flour and cocoa powder, followed by the milk until well combined. Spoon the mixture into the cake tin and bake for 1 hour 20 minutes or until well risen and golden-brown and a skewer inserted into the middle comes out clean.

5. Remove the cake from the tin and leave to cool for five minutes, then place onto a cooling rack and set aside to cool completely.

6. For the icing, mix the butter and cream cheese together in a bowl. Then beat in the icing sugar a little at a time. Once all the icing sugar has been added, add the lemon juice and beat the icing for five minutes or until paler in colour.

7. Slice the cake into three equal layers and sandwich them together with the icing. Finish with a layer of icing on top.

Stoneleigh Open Afternoon Great Success

Stoneleigh staff and residents would just like to thank everyone who supported the open afternoon last Saturday.

They have currently raised £600 for their chosen charities from admission, tombola, cake and plant stall etc.

It was a lovely afternoon and the weather was kind. Bolt the Spaniel from the Hearing Dogs was a great hit.

Thanks again to all who supported the event.

Just to say that there are still some plants for sale so if anyone is interested then call round to Stoneleigh and have a look at the plants for sale.

Stoneleigh Charity Open Afternoon A Success

Stoneleigh staff and residents would just like to thank everyone who supported the open afternoon last Saturday.

They raised £396.00 for their chosen charities from admission, tombola, cake and plant stall, and guess how many sweets in the jar which was won by Karen Kirby.

Stoneleigh also raffled a lovely fruit basket which was kindly donated by Browns Greengrocers in Pocklington and a cushion which had a pattern embroidered to the front of it by our oldest resident Joe Thompson. It took Joe over a year (on and off), to complete the cushion, and at 98 years and 186 days old, this was no mean feat!


The cake stall was expertly run by one of our resident's, Peggy Williams, who did a mean selling job on anyone who came within a two metre radius!


It was a lovely afternoon and the weather was kind. Some of the residents even played cricket!
