 East Riding young photographer competition

The council’s planning design team are inviting all young people in the East Riding to send in their favourite pictures of where they live for the chance to win a £50 one4all shopping voucher.
They are looking for pictures that tell the council what young people like or don’t like so much about their neighbourhood. Whether that be a favourite place to go with friends or where they walk their dogs – the council’s planning design team want to know!
This will help the council plan for creating better public spaces in the future for our residents, their family and friends as part of the ongoing work to create an East Riding Design Code.

Help and support for households across the East Riding with the cost of living

To support our residents with the cost of living, we have launched a ‘Help for Households’ campaign. This campaign will ensure that our residents are aware of the support, advice and help available to them from the government, from local partners and via our own council services. see the flyer promoting the campaign which has links to access help here

Information about support, advice and help together with sign-posting is currently arranged under seven headings to enable residents to find relevant information as easily as possible. 

Urgent help when in need – services that provide financial advice, emergency payments and mental health support.

Help with household bills – benefits, Household Support Fund, food banks, help with energy costs. Broadband deals, and budgeting advice for homeowners and low income households.

Support for families with children – free school meals, school clothing grant, help with childcare costs, and maternity grants for families with children.

---

Older people – pension advice, additional winter benefits, free TV licence information, and financial guidance for older people.

---

Support for tenants and low income households – benefits and financial support for tenants and low income households such as Universal Credit, Housing benefit, Council Tax payment support and the council’s Emergency Assistance Scheme.

Disability services and adult care – disabled facilities grant, Blue Badge application, government benefits and adult social care information.

Debt and money – budgeting advice and financial guidance from the council, the government, community services, and charities.

This information spans current available provision from the government, partners and our own services. New additional provisions and routes of access are being added as soon as they become available to our residents.

This message has been sent at the request of Councillor Leo Hammond (by Dawn Johnson)


Some of you might be aware that our neighbour York has successfully got down to one of the last six (out of an original list of over forty) areas being considered as the new Home of Great British Rail.


Great British Rail will be the new Governing body of our entire railway infrastructure. It would be a great opportunity, not just for York, but also the East Riding to secure this government body nearby.


Already, many East Riding residents, especially in our part of the county, work for the railway industry in York, and this massive investment from Government would unlock additional employment and educational opportunities for our residents.


It will also hopefully improve local infrastructure and transport!

The Government has launched a consultative vote on which of the last six areas the U.K. population would like to see as the new Home of Great British Rail. Whilst the final decision rests with the Secretary of State for Transport, this vote will help influence the Secretary’s decision.

Recently, myself and Cllr Paul West brought a motion to Full Council at ERYC to ask the council to back York’s bid because of the benefits our residents will get if York is successful. The Council voted unanimously in favour of our motion.

It is now important we do all we can to ensure York wins the public vote. I have voted online, as have many others I have spoken to.

I am writing to you to ask you to vote and encourage those around you to vote. Please vote for York and support our region in this great opportunity.

Burglaries In the area

 Police Report - On 17^th December four burglaries were reported, three in Shiptonthorpe and one in South Cliffe.  Offenders gained entry to properties through a front door, and by damaging locks or smashing windows on rear patio doors. Untidy searches were conducted and items stolen included cash, jewellery and clothes. Please remind everyone to be extra vigilant and to report any suspicious people or vehicles to the Police on the non emergency number 101 or 999 in an emergency or if a crime is occurring.

Police and Crime Plan consultation

This week I formally started the process of developing the new statutory Police and Crime Plan for the Humber, which will cover the period 2021-2024.

This is an important document that will not only set out the police and crime objectives for the Humber and the policing that the Chief Constable of Humberside Police is to provide, but also how statutory and non-statutory organisations across the area will work together to deliver safer communities and support the victims and witnesses of crime and antisocial behaviour.

I want to ensure that the plan is developed and delivered in the spirit of collaboration, with input from organisations and residents from across the area. I therefore wanted to make you aware of this work to ensure you have the opportunity to comment on issues in your local areas and to ask for your help in raising awareness with your residents.

I have launched a public survey, which will run until Sunday 11 July, to gather people’s views and experiences from across the area. The more people who complete it the better the information will be, so if you could help me to raise awareness of it (such as through social media or any residents’ newsletters you may have coming up) that would be greatly appreciated. Rural Crime Survey

 Good afternoon,

As you may know, work by the Police & Crime Commissioner, Keith Hunter (PCC) and the Chief Constable of Humberside Police Lee Freeman (CC) has led to a large scale recruitment of Police Officers. This has resulted in an increase of 20% in Police Officer numbers in the East Riding alone.

In addition to boosting the existing Patrol Teams (those officers who respond to calls for service) and CID Officers, there are now increases being introduced in the East Riding Neighbourhood Policing Teams. These include new dedicated Beat Managers for Hessle, Cottingham and Market Weighton and the introduction of a Rural Crime Team, which will be a Sergeant and four PC’s who will focus on rural crime across the East Riding and be based in Driffield.

Both the Commissioner and the Chief Constable are keen to ensure that local communities are involved in setting the priorities for these policing teams and with these new resources soon to be in place it is important that they are dealing with policing matters which are of a concern to the communities they serve.

The link below leads to a very short survey we are asking you as members of rural Parish Councils, Neighbourhood Watch and/or Farm Watch to complete and submit before the 28^th January 2021. The survey asks you to select your top 3 three rural policing issues from a short list. It literally takes two minutes. We recognise that areas will have different issues so the survey also asks for the first four digits of your post code to help us understand and plan effectively.

This is a real opportunity for you as residents to influence policing activity in the future.

Farming GPS Thefts Warning

 Warning following recent farming GPS thefts in the East Riding of Yorkshire

Police are warning farmers across the East Riding to be vigilant following a spate of recent thefts of GPS tracker systems from farm vehicles.

 

Farm vehicles have been targeted and their GPS systems have been stolen. There has been three separate reports of theft of GPS tracker systems from farm vehicles overnight in Hotham, Melbourne and Harswell.

Earlier thefts included GPS systems stolen from two tractor units stored at a facility on Station Road, Ottringham; six GPS systems stolen from tractors in the area of Withernsea Road, Halsham; and, GPS tracker systems stolen from a tractor and a sprayer parked securely in a farmyard on Swine Lane, Coniston.

 

Police advise farmers to remove GPS systems from tractors and other farm machinery each night, don’t leave them in a locked cab, as the cab can be broken into. Farmers should also consider using property marking kits as an added security measure.

 

Humberside Police are appealing for anyone with relevant information to call 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, or call 999 if a crime is happening.

Coronavirus Track and Trace Scams

Coronavirus Track & Trace Scams Advice
Be aware of a growing trend of criminals taking advantage of the current Covid-19 crisis to defraud innocent people, including the new NHS Test and Trace service.
The NHS Test and Trace service has been introduced to allow the NHS to trace the spread of the virus, isolate new infections and give early warning if the virus is increasing again.
However, scammers are now making phone calls, sending texts and emails pretending to be from NHS Test and Trace in order to obtain your personal details.
Advice on how to identify a genuine contact tracer from a scammer.
Genuine NHS contact tracers will:
• call you from 0300 013 5000
• send you text messages from ‘NHS’
• ask you to sign into the NHS test and trace contact-tracing website
• ask for your full name and date of birth to confirm your identity, and postcode to offer support while self-isolating
• ask about the coronavirus symptoms you have been experiencing
• ask you to provide the name, telephone number and/or email address of anyone you have had close contact with in the two days prior to your symptoms starting
• ask if anyone you have been in contact with is under 18 or lives outside of England
Contact tracers will never:
• ask you to dial a premium rate number to speak to them (for example, those starting 09 or 087)
• ask you to make any form of payment or purchase a product of any kind
• ask for any details about your bank account
• ask for your social media identities or login details, or those of your contacts
• ask you for any passwords or PINs, or ask you to set up any passwords or PINs over the phone
• disclose any of your personal or medical information to your contacts
• provide medical advice on the treatment of any potential coronavirus symptoms
• ask you to download any software to your PC or ask you to hand over control of your PC, smartphone or tablet to anyone else
• ask you to access any website that does not belong to the government or NHS
