Cricket Success

The combined team of Bielby Hayton & Shiptonthorpe travelled to Escrick on Friday evening and despite being underdogs came away with the Canon Hedley Trophy with an excellent performance with all team members contributing.

It's a unique competition for villages in the area where the only rule is that all players must reside within the parish boundary.

The make up of the team was 6 from Bielby 3 from Hayton& 2 from Shiptonthorpe.

Scores

Bielby won the toss and batted making 135 for 2

John Chaplin 46,  Adam Thomas 20 & John Gilham 37 not out.

Escrick 105 for 5 with John Chaplin, Lewis Chaplin& George Baty taking 1 wicket each.

We last won the trophy in 2006 so it's been a long time between drinks!

Finally thanks to those villagers who came to support us, especially Jim Whitwell who I think has assumed the position of team manager!

Village Cricket Team

Just to let you know that due to ever decreasing numbers Bielby will not be entering a team in this years's Canon Headley Trophy. We have had a great run for such a small village and hopefully the organisers will change the rules in the future to allow us to join forces with a neighbouring parish and rejoin the competition in the future.
If there is anyone in the village who feels strongly enough to want to continue and become the new organiser please contact me to discuss. Neil Readman,  Tel 318801

Village Cricket Report

Sadly our first game against Barmby Moor turned into a total mismatch against a much bigger village full of cricketers.

Bielby 46 for 9, Neil Readman 15 not out. Good solid effort from debutant Rob Childs. Barmby Moor 47 for 1. Excellent catch by Edward Simpson.

As a result we have resigned from this year's competition and hope that the organising committee will come up with a change in the current ruling and allow the smaller villages to combine with a neighbouring parish to help them to enter a team in the future.

Cricket Match

On a lovely warm and sunny late Summer afternoon, Bielby played their annual friendly against neighbouring village Everingham, at Melbourne.

Everingham batted first with Bielby using 6 different bowlers. After a steady start Bielby got the necessary runs to win the game with an over to go.

Thanks to everyone who has played during 2014 including our 3 guests who helped us against Everingham.

After the game we were all invited back to The Mill and enjoyed the usual high level of hospitality, care of Jon and Beatrice. Many thanks for their generosity.
