Bielby Oil Syndicate 

Did you know that there is an oil syndicate in the village?

It has been running for a few years now – a group of us order our oil together and are able to get better prices as a result. At the moment around 20 households in the village regularly benefit from the syndicate, but it is open to everyone, doesn’t cost you anything, and is all organised via e-mail so it is really straightforward (as long as you check your e-mail regularly!)

How it works 

When someone needs a top up they e-mail me (ideally with at least a week’s notice before delivery is needed). I then e-mail the rest of the group to see if anyone else would like a top up, and if so how many litres. Once I have a list of names and quantities required I ring around all the suppliers and ask for a price for the total volume to be delivered to Bielby, which might be say 7,000 litres. The suppliers are keen to secure our order of lots of deliveries within one village as it is very cost efficient for them, instead of driving around from village to village to deliver 500 litres here and there, hence we are offered a very competitive price. There are two suppliers in particular who are very keen to win the syndicate orders. We then go with the supplier who offers us the best price on the day, and I give them a list of who will be ordering and litres required. I then email the people who wanted deliveries with details of the price, who to call to place their order, and the day the oil will be delivered. All you then need to do is ring up and pay for your order as you normally would, quoting Bielby Oil Syndicate.

It’s as simple as that. We just benefit from ordering in bulk, and we always get a better price than you would pay if you were ordering for one drop off on your own. All I do is co-ordinate things so that we can all save a bit of money.

Winners Of The Intervillage Olympics

A big thanks to all those who attended the inter-village olympics back in September, it was an enjoyable afternoon and guess what, Bielby won. So well done Bielby.

Thanks to all those who took part, a winning combo! We had a real mix of ages with the young ones really enjoying themselves, it was great to see so many families attending. The Quigley's and the Smith's made it a real family affair inviting Grandparents to attend and picnics were taken to make a real day of it.

As you can see it was an enjoyable afternoon and great for all the family. Bielby had a good turn out, so thanks Bielby for helping to make this another great event.

Thanks must go to Hayton for organising & hosting the event this year.

We look forward to seeing you all at next year's inter-village olympics which will be hosted by Bielby.

Duck Race Results

Sunday was a cold day but this didn't deter the villagers who turned out for the annual duck race.

The soup certainly helped to warm us all up.

Christmas Coffee Morning 1st December 2012

Coffee Morning Saturday 1st December 2012 10am to 12 noon at Cherry Court.

Cakes, raffle, handmade gifts & children's toys, homemade sweets & treats, tea cup candles and Christmas tree mystery game.

 Adults £1 includes refreshments.

Children free.

Proceeds to St Giles Church Bielby and York Against Motor Neurone Disease.

Highways Meeting Feedback

The Highways Agency will be inspecting and looking at the best method of holding repairs to the "Rytham Gate" to "Scamland" road and also to the temporary holding repairs to "run off" damage on the Seaton Common and Ash Lane part of the network. They will now have close discussion with the planning team for the 2013/14 programme and beyond to establish the level of funding and priority available to continue the same type of work already undertaken on the East Cottingwith end of Ash Lane. They should be in a position to provide further details in January 2013 and the council's plans to improve the network in this area.

Volunteers Wanted For Committee

Volunteers are wanted to form a committee to look into the feasability of a village facility. If interested please let Paul Ward know. Thanks.

Meeting About State Of Roads

Paul attended a state of our roads meeting on behalf of the village with the highways authority. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the state of roads around our villages. I took views of the villagers to this meeting, however it was only a short meeting and more about the council explaining their strategy for the roads and getting our views on this. The main focus of the Council was to carry out long term strategic improvements to the road from the B1228 to Mill Lane at Seaton Ross, up to Rytham Gate, along the road to Melbourne. This is to encourage larger vehicles to avoid villages when making their way to the A1079. Not sure what the people of Allerthorpe will think of this as it will increase the traffic flow through there. If anybody wants a clearer explanation of this Paul will be happy to give this. Paul has two email addresses for people to contact about road issues.
