Supporting Carers: Dementia
Awareness Course
Aim
This
funded course aims to give carers and
relatives a better insight into this condition which will enable them to
understand and cope with some of the behaviours and emotions of the person with
dementia
The
course is designed for carers and relatives who are involved in the care of
people living with dementia.
Key learning points:
- To understand what dementia is and the different types of dementia
- To know the three stages of dementia and the signs and symptoms
- To appreciate how and why dementia presents so differently from person to person
- To understand what is happening to the memory function and why people with dementia often live in a past reality
- To acquire some new skills and techniques that might help when interacting with the person with dementia and enable them to reach into this past reality
- To be aware of treatments and therapies
- To speak to other carers and share experiences in a supportive environment
