VE Day Celebrations

The organising team is preparing the VE Day celebrations that will take place in Bielby on Thursday 8th May.

Village residents and their families are invited to join the various events throughout the day - more details will be shared soon.

In the meantime we are gathering content to bring the celebration to life.

We are very keen to gather stories, photographs and any form of memorabilia from the 1940’s. Please help up us with anything that you would like to share around the 2nd World War, armed forces, family life, rural life, and what that time period means to you and your relatives.

We do not need to take away any precious photographs or items – we will plan to make copies. Please contact Dawn Hanson: 07733262543 or Jane Dacre: 07856733418

Boundary Changes

Cllr Leo Hammond sent us the following in an email regarding the proposed movement and renaming of Ward boundaries;

Dear Clerk/Parish Secretary,

We are writing to you to ask you and your councillors to have your say on the proposed new council ward boundaries for ERYC.

These will come into effect in 2027 at the next local elections. This is your opportunity to have your say on these final proposals before they are finally signed off in September.

Wolds Weighton is currently proposed to be cut into four and joins with other areas to form the following wards:

1. West Wolds

2. Derwent Valley

3. Weighton and Holme

4. Beverley Rural

I personally feel it’s very sad that our fantastic ward which I’ve had the privilege of serving since 2019 is going to be carved up. However, what’s important is making sure the new wards best Serve our communities.

You can comment on the new boundaries and proposed names. Please have your say.

Obviously, regardless of what happens with these boundary changes, myself, Paul West and Derek Cary will continue to serve the residents and communities of Wolds Weighton to the best of our abilities until the ward is dissolved in May 2027.

We will obviously be happy to discuss this further at Parish Council meetings.

You can see the new proposals here: https://www.lgbce.org.uk/all-reviews/east-riding-yorkshire

Best wishes, Leo.
