Financial Help for Households
Help us to reach those in need this winter
East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s £2m Household Support Fund is there to help East Riding residents most in need this winter.
The council launched the scheme on 6 October 2021 from one-off central Government funding to provide financial support to those who need it most.
We are aware that many residents in the East Riding are struggling financially. With that in mind we are getting in touch to ask for your help to get the message to those in your community who need help and may be eligible to apply.
The fund provides short term financial support to help eligible people who are struggling to cover essentials such as food, clothing and utility bills.
It can also be used to support households with essential costs related to those items and with wider essential costs. In exceptional cases of genuine emergency, it can additionally be used to support housing costs where existing housing support schemes do not meet this exceptional need.

The closing date for applications is 24 December 2021.
We are running a marketing campaign to get the message out into communities but we are appealing to you to share messages on your social media accounts, send information onto local community groups and organisations.
If you know of residents in your community who may be struggling financially put them in touch with us to see if we can help.
Rights of Way improvement
We received the following email regarding rights of way;
Good morning
East Riding of Yorkshire Council is updating the Rights of Way Improvement Plan (ROWIP) to reflect important changes in the benefits that our countryside paths provide; for example health and well-being, active travel, leisure and recreation, and the social and economic value that the network provides.
We are undertaking a consultation to ensure that the revised ROWIP reflects the challenges facing the network over the next ten years. To access the Draft Rights of Way Improvement Plan 2022-2032 please go to: https://www.eastriding.

Bird Flu Update
- Animal and Plant Health Agency (AHPA) are the lead for Avian Flu. ERYC has a role in supporting.
- Avian flu is predominatly a poultry diseasase, and the risk to humans is very low. There is no risk to the food chain.
- APHA introduce two zones - a protection zone (3k from the infected premise) and surveillance zone - (10k from the affected premise). You may have seen some Animal Disease Control Zone signs that have been placed on the main roads at 10k. Today we will be moving those a little bit to reflect the new zone.
- People who own poultry and birds need to take specific precautions as a result of the outbreak and this varies depending on which zone you are in. There is a requirement to keep all birds housed, and either to record or prevent poultry movements. There is a lot of bird flu about at the moment, and keepers have been required to keep birds housed since November anyway.
- The Animal and Plant Health Agency have asked ERYC to carry out foot patrols in the 3k area around the two affected premises. We will be looking for people who keep small amounts of poultry in the "back yard" and offering advice on what they need to do as a result of outbreak, and APHA may sent a vet to check the birds are fit and well.
- If residents aren't in we will leave a letter asking them to contact us if they have poultry.
- Door knocking teams have now completed the visits in the original 3k zone, and will be out tomorrow in the new zone. This will be predominantley in Pocklington in the new houses near the rugby club. We will be reassuring residents that there is no cause for concern in seeing staff out.
