Countryside Stewardship: Woodland Creation Grant Open for 2018

Countryside Stewardship: Woodland Creation Grant Open for 2018

The scheme is open for applications until 16 February 2018.
The Countryside Stewardship Woodland Creation Grant is a standalone capital grant offering funding to farmers and other land managers in England to plant and protect young trees. The grant provides a one-off payment towards the cost of supplying and planting trees and associated items needed to create new woodland. This is undertaken through a two-year works programme.
The maximum available grant per hectare for a given woodland creation application is £6,800 for capital items covering both planting and protection. This cap will be calculated as an average across the area of the application. Subject to eligibility, a supporting maintenance grant of £200 per hectare for 10 years may also be available.
Applicants can select from a range of capital items as part of their woodland creation grant. These apply to one-off payments towards the cost of certain items or activities, eg planting trees or erecting new fencing and each offer different payment rates.
Land managers, owners, leaseholders and tenants in England can apply for these grants, as long as the land parcels in their application are under their full control for the length of the agreement period.
Environment Minister Thérèse Coffey said:
"Planting trees is one of the best ways we can invest in our environment for future generations. They provide a haven for wildlife, reduce flood risk and improve water quality – making them some of our most cherished assets.
"I have seen first-hand how planting trees can really make a difference at places such as the Lowther Estate in Cumbria, so I would urge landowners to apply to this scheme."
