Reminder About The Guess The Villager Baby/Toddler Photo Comp

I have received a few photographs of villagers as babies and toddlers so thought I would send out a reminder that the produce show is running a Guess The Villager - Baby / Toddler Photograph Competition, which will be run on the show day (Saturday 16th August 2014).

Anyone wishing to supply a photo please bring a photocopy of your baby/toddler photo to Sara at Common Farm. I am happy to photocopy your photograph for you if that helps. Copies of photos to Sara by 1st August 2014.

I will be delivering a reminder leaflet about this in the next week or so.

Telling Tales Broadcast on Vixen Radio

WRITING ON THE AIR FOR NEW EAST RIDING RADIO SHOW
Creative writers across East Yorkshire will have a new platform for their work with the launch of a dedicated radio show from this month.
Vixen 101 community radio, which broadcasts from Market Weighton, is to air Telling Tales, a one-hour programme devoted to local writing, such as short stories and poetry. The show, hosted by writer Julie Barker, will also include an interview with a local author and a round-up of workshops, events and competitions. It is to be broadcast at 4pm on the middle Saturday of each month, initially until October, on 101.8FM in the Western Wolds and online & via mobile phones everywhere. The programme will also be available to download from the website, www.vixen101.co.uk.
Julie says: “Many creative writers don’t have an outlet for their work so this radio show will give them an opportunity for stories to be heard. I also want to encourage sharing ideas of good practice. You can give a group the same title for a story or poem and it’s amazing how different  people’s styles are.”
The first programme, a special called Easter Tales, includes an interview with author and teacher Ali Cargill from Millington near Pocklington, plus contributions from writers in Holme Upon Spalding Moor, Pocklington, Elloughton, York and North Ferriby.
Vixen 101 Station Manager Paul Stellings says: “Creative writing has been a growing part of our output so it was a logical progression to devote more time to work with local writers. There’s nothing quite like the buzz of having your stories or poems broadcast and I look forward to more writers submitting their work.”
Stories or poems can be sent via email to admin@vixen101.co.uk, or posted to Telling Tales, Vixen 101, 34a High Street, Market Weighton, YO43 3AH.
Vixen 101 is volunteer-run and has been broadcasting across East Yorkshire since 2009 with a mix of music, news, features, sport, outside broadcasts and specialist programmes.  New members are always needed and can contact the station by email at membership@vixen101.co.uk, call 01430 875830, or text Vixen to 07766 404142. See www.vixen101.co.uk for full details of the station’s work.

Boules court. Mike suggested a boules court is made to commemorate the Tour de France.
New windows – the windows need replacing. Nigel E has been busy getting quotes, going to meetings and filling in application forms.

Inn nights – it was decided that the bar closes at 11.30 on inn nights. There is a rota on the bar, please sign up when you can help.  ‘Use it don’t loose it’ .
