Events For Pocklington Canal’s 200th Anniversary

New events programme and historical exhibit for the
Pocklington Canal’s 200th anniversary

As part of the HLF-supported project and to mark the bicentenary of the canal’s opening, a new series of events for 2018 has been announced. Highlights include:

People of the Pocklington Canal (18 June to 1 August 2018
Enjoy an exhibition in the Pocklington Arts Centre which tells the history of those who used and restored the canal. 

Bicentenary Festival (28 and 29 July 2018
This two-day festival will take place at Melbourne Arm and Canal Head to celebrate 200 years of the Pocklington Canal. It will include boat trips, re-enactment walks, kayaking, have-a-go archaeology, wildlife activities, music and more!

Oral History Training Workshop (13 March 2018
Join a Canal and River Trust archivist at Pocklington Arts Centre to learn more about oral history and help record people’s memories of the canal for future generations.

Archaeology Workshop (22 April 2018
Come and help sort through the finds from the Canal Head dig and learn more about what secrets were uncovered. 

Easter at Melbourne Arm (1 to 2 April 2018
A family event to accompany the regular PCAS boat trips, with nest building and heritage trails. Complete all the activities and win a prize! 

Bird Watching for Beginners (13 May 2018
Join EcoSapien’s ecologist for a guided introduction to the birds of the canal. Other wildlife workshops will include tree identification, insect identification and bat walks.
